World-renowned caterer that doesn't 'do' weddings, Taiwan-based Asustek, has now revealed the latest addition to its optical drive line-up. The new releases include two DVD writers codenamed DRW-20B1S/B1ST which feature things like the Optimal Tuning Strategy technology, the E-Green Engine and updated Airflow Field Modification capabilities. The Optimal Tuning Strategy will optimize the write speeds i order to ensure disc backups are done flawlessly, the E-Green Engine helps reduce the drive's power consumption while the Airflow Field Modification will tweak the airflow field inside the drive in order to reduce its noise output.

Weighting in 610 grams, the new drives are available with either SATA or PATA drives and boast 2 MB of buffer. The maximum write speeds offered by them are of 20X for DVD-R/+R, 12X for DVD+R(DL), DVD-R (DL) and DVD-RAM, 8X for DVD+RW, 6X for DVD-RW, 48x for CD-R and 32X for CD-RW. No word on price tags yet but those should be revealed when Asus' new drivers hit the stores, before the end of the month.
